DID TRUMP CANCEL MLK DAY AND JUNETEENTH?

Headlines everywhere have been reporting that President Trump has cancelled Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth and made his birthday a holiday–is that fact or fiction? Let's debunk this.

Trump and his administration have altered fee-free days at National Parks throughout our country. What does Trump’s administration have to do with National Park fee-free days? Throughout the years, Independence Day (est. 1938), MLK Day (est. 1983), and Juneteenth (est. 2021) have become federal holidays. Due to them being federal holidays, National Parks around America have made those days “fee-free” days in a way to honor those federal holidays.

The changes made were brought to everyone’s attention when the fee-free days of national parks calendar was released. Originally, the fee-free national park days in America were reportedly held on MLK Day (January 20), The first day of National Park Week (April 19), Juneteenth (June 19), The anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act (August 24), National Public Lands Day (September 27), Veterans Day (November 11). Recently, Trump’s administration made the choice to alter the fee-free days to: Presidents' Day (February 16), Memorial Day (May 25), Flag Day (June 14), Independence Day weekend (July 3 to 5), The 110th birthday of the National Park Service (August 25), Constitution Day (September 17), Theodore Roosevelt's birthday (October 27), Veterans Day (November 11). There are notably many changes made to the days fee-free days take place. One significant fact that has been circulating social media is that Trump made his birthday a fee-free national park day.

Trump did make his birthday, June 14th, a fee-free national park day–did Trump make this decision with the intent to somehow make his birthday a federal holiday? No. Unless readers don’t know, Flag Day, an important day in America’s history, happens to be Trump’s birthday.

Once looking at the original fee-free days calendar and taking a look at the new, and improved fee-free days calendar, I would say our country is becoming less woke. Trump is making sure of it.

Overall, the shocking headlines that “Trump cancelled MLK Day and Juneteenth and made his birthday a holiday,” is fiction.
